I am from Illinois and we want to take or ATV's to other states. I have been told that I have to have our ATV's registered. Illinois do not register their ATV's. I was told that I can register them in other states. How much will it cost us to do this?

Well I am from Colorado and an OHV permit is required (as well as spark arestors), period. Colorado provides an "out of state" permit for those coming to Colorado to ride but their home state does not have a permitt program. Basically Colorado (and many others I asume) recognises other states permits (if available). The out of state permit is the same price as "in state" residences. My advice, check the state's requirements that you wish to ride in and follow their guidelines. For example, I have a friend that lives in Missouri (they have no permit) but he regularly pops over the border into Iowa (requires permit) so he buys an Iowa permit and is now legal to ride in my state (Colorado) with his Iowa permit. The price will vary by state, Colorado's happens to be $25.25 which I think is ridiculously cheap for supporting the states trail system.

Does this make sense?

Reading some information about your state, I seem to see that a public access sticker is required for riding on any public land. I could be wrong though.

Illinois state ATV information

Here is another link that may prove helpfull on your states requirements.

DNR of Illinois

$54 is cheap for a year of unlimited riding on public lands. You will pay $250-$400 a year for unlimited access to private OHV parks or motorsports complex's. The day fees at private track's and areas add up fast.

In Michigan you will need a ORV sticker. They cost 17/atv. Think it is the same for everybody (in and out of state)

"Non-residents operating their
ATVs in Wisconsin for less than 15 consecutive days must purchase an
ATV Trail Pass ($35.00) if not currently registered in Wisconsin."

"Special Attention for Illinois, Michigan or other states:
Illinois and Michigan do not have an ATV registration system that is recognized
in Wisconsin. You must either register your ATV in Wisconsin or
purchase a valid ATV Trail Pass to legally operate in Wisconsin."

"The $35.00 non-resident ATV trail use pass is valid from July 1st through June 30th."

I'm not sure about other states, but this is what I could find for here.
