hey guys, it's been a while since i posted in here...but i'm having some trouble with the 350. it used to run perfect, start right up, and never had a lick of trouble with it. now it just won't crank. it turns over but won't start. if i jump start it by pulling it with another quad, truck, etc. it will fire up. and after i run it for a minute or two and kill it, it will fire up when i crank it...i'm baffled!! can ya'll give me some pointers on where to start...

Valve adjustment perhaps? Ive heard that valve that are out of spec can cause symptoms similar to this.

I also checked the plug and it was fouled out...i put a new plug in it and it still wont crank. i pulled the plug put it against the block with the wire hooked to it and it won't get fire to the plug. so i was thinking it might be the cdi(stator) or the solenoid for the plug? but if it was the stator the bike wouldn't crank over right...correct me if i'm wrong.

I will have to agree with Yourad, valves being out of adjustment causes hard starting. Valves can be held open slightly (no lash) or open late (too much lash). Another thing to check while your at it is the cam chain adjuster, its possible that the cam chain, chain sliders are worn and either need adjusted or replaced. A sloppy cam chain causes erratic valve timing thus hard starting as well.

Now I don't have the service manual in front of me but my guess would be .004 intake and .005 exhaust on the valve lash. BTW the job is made easier with the proper bent feeler gauges and adjusting tool. Both available from Motion Pro.

Valves would be my guess as well. My kids 50cc Kazuma did the same thing. Only would start when cold by jump starting. Once warm it would fire up with the starter. A simple valve adjustment fixed it.

so valves are a high possibility...but what would cause it to not get fire??

The valves not opening/cosing at the proper time or place. Not letting enough air in, or choking the engine out because they wont allow the exhaust out in time to keep firing.

I see you are having a problem with hard starting. Valve adjustments on the intake & exhaust valve adjustments will cause a bike to run rough or hard start. But you said you pulled your plug and hooked it to the bike and it was not firing... a slight valve adjustment will not cause the plug to not fire. It sounds to me like an electrical component is getting too hot. Start with your firing components and work your way through until you determine which component is causing the problem. Pulling it with another quad or truck is causing the pickups to generate the necessary spark to get it to start.

laraptor350,
Just as a thought, I'm sure you've inspected the air cleaner and air intake tubes for debris. Also the cleanleness and quality of the gasoline.
Very Respectfully,
Sid
