That is a good point for the older versions. They do have a hardware problem. I lost 2 of them myself. But, Microsoft is standing by them and has extended the warranty. The new version with HDMI doesn't have these issues anymore.
Oh, and yes, when you go to a 360 controller, you'll never go back to a PS controller again. I had a PS and PSII for years. I didn't think I would like the 360 controller. After 15 min of play time with one I realize it's much better laid out and far more comfortable.

And I do agree for Blu Ray the PS3 is great. However, I stick to my HD-DVD. The better format that should have won. Oh, well..Sony has DEEEEP pockets.
The Blue Ray Disc has double the capacity of the HD Discs as well. This will mean good things for computers with Blue Ray burners.
Most Blu-Rays are 25gig disks, HD-DVD are 30gig. The blank 25gig disks are a whopping $20 EACH. If storage is your issue, I just picked up a 500gig Western Digital hard drive over the weekend for $80.
I haven't seen a blank 50gig blu-ray disk yet. However, the 25gigers being $20 each, the 50's will be way too pricey to even use.
For movies, though, that 50gig blu-ray offered is meaningless right now because they can't even use that space up for movies. HD-DVD was superior, it should not have lost the war. Leave it to Sony to fuk up the industry and cause massive confusion by coming out with their own type of technology. Can we say "betamax" or "mini-disk" or "SACD". Keeping constant confusion in the industry causes people to hold off from adopting new technolgies and allowing the current technologies to advance and get standaradized.

As far as Blu-ray vs HD-dvd, Blu ray is more attractive to gamers since developers aren't limited to space when developing games, and also aren't forced to compress data to make it fit on 360's standard Dvd 9 disks. Thats the reason 360 games are short, they max out the disk space forcing them to cut out certain things. HD-dvd would of put up a better fight if Microsoft did what Sony did; Put it directly inside thier console. Smart move Sony. Bravo.

Dvd-9 disks are standard dual layer dvds, 7.95gig, that has nothing to do with HD-DVD. PS-3 games are not on a blu-ray format, either. At least not yet. The issue with PS-3 games currently is they are very difficult to program. Time will tell if they will ever be able to use all the space on a blu-ray for games with the PS-3.
As far as the games on 360 being short, I have no idea to be honest. I've never played on to completion. I got the console for online gaming only. That's all I do when I play.
Yes, if Microsoft would have got in bed with Toshiba earlier and put HD-DVD drive IN the 360, there would be no more blu-ray. Yes, smart move on Sony's part.
