After all the information I have recieved, I still can't figure out if my rear diff is supposed to be locked or not full time. I have got opinions from you all, and I have called 6 AC dealers. The dealers are
split 50/50 on whether or not it is supposed to be locked full time. Does anyone have a similar AC that knows? Mine is an 2006 400 FIS. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in the dealers, they are so divided on their opinions. And, none are within 40 miles of my home. Thanks for any info -

If you have an option to lock the rear end, then I would say it's possible for it to be "open". Like "turf mode" found on some of the UTV's. If you do not have an option to lock the rear end, then that would mean it's always "open"..I've NEVER EVER seen a quad with an all the time open rear end. It would basically be worthless w/o a locked rear end. I would say it is to stay locked at all times, unless you have an option.

That is what makes the most sense to me, but it kept throwing me off when some of the dealers were saying it should not be locked. I can see with a solid rear axle, but with IRS, I thought it might be an open rear end. Thanks for the info - Cat Dad
