My Arctic Cat has a locked rear differential. The only problem is, I don't think it's supposed to be locked. I recently noticed it was harder to turn and bucked on asphalt when turning. I had someone get on it and go in a circle and both wheels were turning the same speed. Is this something that it is supposed to do and I just noticed? Or has something broken in the rear end? This thing performs perfect otherwise. If you have any information, please help! - Thanks

Are you sure the problem isn't in the front end? Usually the rear end is "locked". Not that familiar with AC, to be honest, however. Even straight axle quads aren't necessarily hard to turn or buck on pavement. My Scrammy gets hard to turn and somewhat "bucks" on pavement when the front end engages. Gotta be on gravel and then going onto pavement for the AWD to kick in on the scrammy, though.

My Cat has a locking front diff, and that is not the problem. I've recieved conflicting stories from different dealers about whether or not the rear end should be locked or not. It has fully independent front and rear suspension, not a solid axle. So it makes sense that each wheel would turn freely. But like I said, no one seems to know!

Your rear diff will always be locked. I think Polaris is the only company that may, may have an option for an open diff on the rear end. Other than that your rear diff is suppose to stay locked. Or at least Im 94% sure anyway

Is it all the time 4x4 or can you select 2x4? Have you made sure the switch for 2x4 isn't faulty? Jack it up, all 4 off the ground. Do all 4, or 3, wheels turn when you hit the gas and the switch is in 2x4? Sometimes these things will go into 4x4 when the switch is in 2x4 due to faulty switch, wiring, ect.

Thank you all for the great info. I was on this other lame forum (supposibly for atv's) for a week and never once got a reply to my questions. That's what I couldn't figure out, whether it was supposed to be locked or not, and I didn't want to go to a dealer and let them charge me for something that was not broken. By the way, we use this cat for farm use primarily, but what a great bike! - Thanks again!
