I respect all of that snake, but the bottom line is welding stainless with an AC welder or any welder is going to produce nocuous fumes's. I don't profuse to be an expert on this, but I know it is fact. I worked with a retired Air Force Mechanic for years, that could fabricate anything, and get any type of vehicle home. He was a wealth of knowledge, but died too young. Probably because of exposure to chemicals in the trade. Experience is priceless, but you have to know what you're dealing with. Especially kids, just learning these skills.

Grizz, I agree,I am sure you and I both have some kind of lung polution due to careless use of equipment.Its very hard to see myself as bing bullet proof now.The point was that there is many different ways to weld.I have seen some real good welders,working on submarines that required certificates from the Navy to weld on those boats. A weld broke on a pipe that sunk the "Thresher" when she dived on a test.

almost all welding puts out fumes.. but that being said i work on fuel systems for a living and i know soaking myself in jet rocket and diesel fuel and gasoline cant be good for ya but hey thats my job i just try to wash it all off after i finish a job

I've seen someone weld with 3 car batteries hooked together.
We were 4 wheelin with my buddy's jeep and the tie rod broke. We took the tie rod out and we about to drive back into town in my other friends truck. As we were loading up a guy said he might can fix it. So he got his battery and both of my friends batteries. We hooked them up with 2 gage jumper cables and he had a few welding rods and welded the tie rod there on the spot. Not a pretty weld but it held up enough to get back down and buy a new tie rod.

I remember reading an article about using a battery to weld in one of the 4X4 truck mags.I think it was some kind of converter that was used with it.
