i really like the trx450R is what i really wanted but i found the raptor for a price i could afford to buy and have $$ to ride it.

Far be it that you interpreted that monolog in this way, but the focus of the post was that even this sport, which seemed to be alot of fun at a nominal cost, isn't so nominal anymore. It means not going on these type of trips as often, or investing as much time as before. You can't tell me bbqmaster that you haven't changed your habits about fuel usage. Even Stumper indicated how he has changed to using the Rapter more than the Brute Force. I will keep the machines that I have, but I see purchasing smaller cc machines in the future which can be just as much fun as the 700cc and larger bikes. So how could you interpret that as whining? Its just catching a glimpse of the future.

fuel cost has changed the way i do things i dont make out of the way trips and if i go somewhere i make sure i have atleast 2 things to do in an area. but as far as toys are concerned no it hasnt changed the way i do things i didnt buy them to sit in the garage and collect dust and i didnt buy them to go slow.
why would you buy a smaller machine????? that alone is going to cost way more than what it cost now just to put fuel in the ones you have.. you make no sense at all

Is the price of fuel having an impact on my riding style? No. I still ride as I always have. It cost $20 to fill up the Z compared to $15 it used to. I'll be ok spending the extra $5 a week or so. But trading in a machine for a smaller, more "fuel efficient" one is pointless. By the time you take the depreciation hit you're in an even deeper hole.
Now if you are asking if fuel prices are impacting my trip TO riding spots then that answer is yes AND no. No as in I still go to the dunes about once or twice a month which is about 150 miles round trip. Whoever comes just splits fuel so it doesnt bother me at all. Yes as in I want to make a long distance trip to a really nice riding spot like Hatfield & McCoy, Little Sahara, or would REALLY love a trip to Glamis. Does this mean I wont go? No, it just means that it's going to take a few extra people going and a little more planning to make it financially doable.

It seems a fer pace to get to here from what I said earlier. I fully intend to keep what I have since they are paid for still do a terrific job. Future purchases will not include trading an existing quad, but will be adding to what already have. Its just that I don't find the need for super powered Utility or big bore sport quad, especially when gas is still going up in price.
