Hey,
If you were looking for a utility ATV to use on a farm, no trailriding, just a dependable workhorse for hauling & towing, and you came across a '04 Polaris Sportsman 500 with 4900 miles on it, would you buy it? (Assuming you were confident it had been used appropriately and well maintained.) Or is that too many miles? Is 4900 mi. considered super high mileage? Just want thumbs up or down for now, will consider price separately...
Any thoughts/advice highly appreciated, no fighting please!

how much, i would gess you could get it for 2500.00 may have to do some small fixes on it but it would be worth it. I got my 400 with 800 miles on it and now it has over 3000 on it.

NO, i would stay away from it, in fact, i'd run away from it as far as i could and i would seek immediate professional help, there is a hotline you can call for help where operators are standing by 24/7 to help you get thru it.
hope that helps Snitch11

Snich, thats a lot of miles on a bike that you don't know anything about.Casper bought hers with only a few miles. There are many ATVs for sale, look around.I am not a Polaris guy,but I know folks who have sworn by there value.Ask what it was used for,and that may help you decide.Look for a good used Honda Foreman, that would be my choice for a work horse.

The price would be a big factor for me. If the price significantly cheaper than others with less miles, then it might be worth it considering how you are going to use it. You wouldn't be putting that many miles on it and it's not likely to be ridden hard. It might last you a long time. Polaris is a big name around here and people seem to have good luck with them.

I had a lot of work done on mine the person who had it before me let it sit so long that every gasket had to be replaced and had a lot of other stuff so less miles dose not mean any thing. could go threw a list of every thing that was replaced but its too long.

Susan are you willing to dig in and fix things? I don't think that's a lot of miles on a well maintained engine but I'm worried about other thinks. Bearings, bushings, belt, brakes. Stuff that doesn't require a degree in ATV repair just someone with some mechanical skill or willingness to learn. With an ATV the miles really depend on the type of riding. An ATV can be worn out in less than a 1000 miles but I also have heard of some machines with 10K or more.
