I see the weight of the new Z400 is 425lbs, how much more is that than the 07 Z400? Also with all the new EFI and ECU, that will have to drive the price up by $400 or $500 over the previous year's model. Will the benefit of the extra weight and EFI be worth the price increase? Its nice to see upgrades to favorite models, but invariably it equals higher cost.

The weight of 425lb is the ready to ride weight with fluids and all. The MSRP is expected to be around $6100.

No I'd say $200 dollar increase for EFI and wider stance is quite the bargain. The added weight is revised from a "dry" weight to "ready to ride" weight, fully loaded.

I would say that the actual retail price will be a good amount more than $6100, and in weight comparison to the 400EX, the EX's ready to ride weight is 410 lbs. So the EFI must have added some weight to the 08 Z400. What am I getting at with this diatribe? There is a charm to the more simple setup, and it saves on dollars with the more traditional carbed machine. As seen on the LTR, and KFR 450R, the EFI made it less modable. I am not in favor of adding EFI to this class of machines.

$6199 is the actually MSRP. Again....the z400 is now wider then before, features shocks WITH rezzies, and is water cooled....so one can easily see where the extra 15 lbs comes from. The EFI debate can go on forever, some like it some hate it, just preference but I think EFI is more suitable on this machine then the LTR being that the 400 is a trail machine and more likely to see altitude changes on trails and such then the 450...again...just opinion and preference. As far as simplilicity goes, the z400 has been out performing the 400ex since it's release, I expect that margin to increase more so with the new features. reliability can't even be questioned here. For every 400ex still chuggin theirs a z400 right beside it. Suzukis tested the EFI setup on their 450 and Kingquad, they seem to have it down well especially since they are confident enough to put it on their 450 dirt bikes.

I completely disagree with you Rincon. I think EFI is far and away a good investment for the Entry/Mid Level Sport Machine, that will be asked to do anything and everything, anywhere! If there are no major flaws in the EFI system, then I would say that the 400EX is not even in the same class as the Z400. And please dont try and charm me about the simplicity of the 400EX, they are great machines and I love mine, but times they are a changin' and Honda needs to catch up or get left behind.
