I am planning on putting in a wiseco piston, pro design w/ k&n filter, bigbear oil cooler (for better cooling obviously) and possibly a hmf pipe on my 01 wolverine, question is if I do this will the wiseco piston make a noticeable increase in performance?

foxracingusa,
Type wiseco into the "search" field above and hit the "Go" button. There is a great deal of information on the company. Be sure to read through the many posts in that area. Make sure that you are really confident with the company before investing many dollars into their products.
Very Respectfully,
Sid

I installed a Wiseco .40 (2mm) over piston with 10.25 compression in my Warrior. At the same time I also installed a .390 lift Web cam. I don't think you can go wrong with the HMF pipe but make sure you buy a jet kit with it because with these mods you will need it. Alba also has a really nice kit with a pipe, jet kit, filter adapter (to get rid of the poorly designed stock air filter system), and pre-filter. I think its around $500 dollars which is very reasonable IMO.
I haven't installed a Big Bear oil cooler but I haven't had any problems with it overheating even in harsh conditions. However, if your Wolverine is 4wd I would recommend it because of the extra drag on the motor.
I would assume that the piston alone would make a noticeable difference, but since you will be tearing the motor down I would highly recommend installing the .390 Web cam with it. Its only about $140 more and you can retain your stock springs with it I would buy and install new stock springs from Yamaha just to be sure, they are relatively cheap. High performance springs are not needed and will actually decrease performance to increased valvetrain friction.
Without the bigger cam you won't take full advantage of the piston and may be disappointed. Remember when you are building an engine that it isn't how any one component of the engine works, its all about how well they work together. And trust me, this setup will make a huge difference.
I also put a 38mm Keihin carb from Duncan Racing which helps top end, but I doubt if its necessary with your Wolverine but its one more thing to consider.

Are you going to bore the cylinder and go with an oversize piston? Or keep the stock bore? Just checking because you didn't mention anything about bore in your post.
You're not going to gain anything with a standard bore wiseco piston over the stock piston. The stock piston would probably be more reliable down the road than the wiseco, at least this seems to be the case in some of yamaha's sled motors.
With the mods you listed you're going to have to rejet so you might want to find a jet kit too.

Im seeing alot of useless information on here.
With a stock size wiseco piston you wont notice much of a gain at all, although it will boost your compression a little bit, though it is a good upgrade becuase those pistons are much stonger then stock, and can handle much more abuse.

I am seeing useless information in your post smart guy. A new stock sized piston will increase the compression ratio huh? Tell me how it does that Einstein?

Like you stated, you will gain a little performance with a higher compression piston, but is it worth it? If you're going to do that much work, you might as well overbore the cylinder and get a piston to match. At the same time upgrade the cam, it's not that hard to do. The biggest exspence is the machine work, shop around. Wieseco is a good company, with good products. They have been around for a long time.
