does anyone in here have any solutions, or other similar stories they'd like to share? i feel like changing my summer vacation plans, if you know what i mean.

Damn man that sucks. Ive done several dealings through other forums and luckily have never been burned and I hope I never do. The worst case I had was I bought a set of Sandstars for $90 shipped..and while Sandstars arent the greatest at $90 who could go wrong....FedEx lost em. Luckily the seller refunded my money.
On a side note...Im in Louisiana....I can recoupe lost funds for a small fee and a fuel surcharge for travel.

Well if you haven't, file a claim with PayPal (if you paid with PayPal)... But that won't do much if he doesn't have any money in his account.
If you paid by money order, there is a way you can file a claim with the post office, cause that is mail fraud which the popos will actually look at unlike PayPal...
I got scammed for about $400 by a guy from Georgia, some computer parts. Well turns out he scammed a bunch of people, close to about $15k total... And not only that, he already had a scamming spree a while back when he was minor and he went to Juvi for it, and now he did it the second time, he was over 18. We filed claims with PayPal, his local police, the FBI, and our local police... The cops didn't do ****! Yes, we had his full name, address(s), parents names, his whole history of scamming, and everything... Cops didn't do ****. Now that I remember it, it makes me so angry. I will still end up flying to Georgia someday and settings things straight, maybe this summer...

so sorry to hear, I do know how it feels we get scammers here at the rentals all the time, they ether rip us off for free rides are crash damage. We do have a saying here " Even a preacher will lie to get out of paying."

PM me with the guys address, name, etc.
I might be able to get the Feds on his case with tampering with interstate commerce. Although...to be honest... they typically tell me they don't have the resources for it. But then... I have a buddy in Alabama who might be able to help too.

If I had the extra time and money I would be on the next flight to Georgia and Alabama... I can't stand people that steal other peoples hard earned money/stuff.

That sucks HOJ. Still, how much jail time is $625 worth? That and what if you show up with a 2x4 and he shows up with a gun? It still sucks but its kind of hard to do anything about it.
Just file it with his local police department and maybe they will do you a favor and go talk to the guy. Maybe it will scare him enough that he will send your money back. Its worth a shot because you won't be out anything and maybe his local police will start a file on him. That and you could be dealing with a 14 year old kid and his parents will send you the money back.
