Ya, but we can let the tip-ups do the fishing, while we crack a beer.

If that's what you want there's always live shrimp under a cork or cracked crab on the bottom for reds.

I tried ice fishing once. I did not have any luck. I kept having problems hooking anything. After getting frustrated, catching a cold, and getting frost bite I quit. After all that I was told I had to cut a hole in the ice to ice fish.

Ohhh indeed. We usually make a few trips during the summer to fish for speckled trout. Last trip we went on was the most productive trip I had ever seen. In one day we filled a 120 qt ice chest...with no ice in it. We were 4 people and were about 10 fish from a limit(25 per person). Not a one under 2 pounds. We had to empty out half of the ice chest just to pick it up out of the boat . A bad day fishin is better than a good day of work.

That sounds a lot like mackerel fishing up here. If you go on a half-day charter boat, from mid June to early August; you can fill a 40 gal rubbermaid container in 4 hrs. And if you get sick of hauling in mackerel, after you hook one, leave it out there, and you can pick up a striper or bluefish.

I'm headed up to my sisters resort this weekend, northern MN and I talked to her today and it is cold up there. Average -20 in the mornings and maybe making it to the single temps in the afternoon. So I sat back and wondered why I ice fish? OH YEAH! NOW I REMEMBER, TO DRINK BEER!lol! in a warm ice fishing house of course. The ice is just over 2ft on the river.
