Probably not you guys down south. You guys can conventionally fish year round. But here in the Northeast, winters can get boring, and it's a fun sport to take up. I heading up to the lakes region of NH this week, to try for lake trout and rainbow trout. Don't know if we will bring the ATV's, because I hear the conditions are not to favorable for them; lots of deep snow and slush. Should be a good time regardless. Here's an ice fishing forum I found last week. I got more information from this place than I've got from all the books I've read about it over the past few years. Here's the link: Ice Fishing Forum.

I like to ice fish too, I live in central MN so we ice fish a lot. Also my sister and her husband own a fishing resort in northern MN on the rainy river which is right on the border of canada. The fishing has been excellent this year. Couple of weeks ago she caught a 30 inch walleye that weighed 9.8lbs. Myself I haven't been catching a lot. I'm really into bow hunting.

Their pretty scarce around here; we only have them in a few major rivers and they don't get near to that size.

I don't much think you could walk on the ice that forms on any of the water around here in Arkansas.

I've done some ice fishing, but I usually find myself more bored once I'm out on the ice.

I think I'd rather ice fish than open water fish! We haven't gotten out much this year. One of the first times we did go out, it was super cold out. Ended up with a dead battery on the Grizz, so we had to hike back across the lake to go home (luckily the truck started) to go get my father-in-law's truck (which is lighter) so they could charge the battery. A couple hours later...My husband said it was 28 below when he got off the lake, not including wind chill! I don't know, I was told I was staying home where it was warm. But at least we ended up with a decent meal for the three (and a half!) of us!

I'll think about you poor unfortunate ice people when I am out throwing a Top Dog topwater bait for specks in the sunshine.
