RE: *STOLEN* 2007 Yamaha YFZ 450 SE & 97 CR250r

"Ok well heres the deal-- First found out the quad/bike were stolen at 6:15 ish by my dad, who noticed the greenhouse door was open. My nieghbors truck alarm was going off at 3:00 am first.. My neighbors saw 2 people pushing my quad from my house across the street (3:30 am) , down a side street to where we always see 20-25 yr olds partying with a ton of people. They just thought it was me and my buddy sneaking out to go screw around town on my quad. Neighbors and people who like 1+mile away heard or saw it flying down main roads. I got pics of the bent over grass trail leading from the side road across the street from my house to there back yard, and of a muddy track from a dirtbike left leaving there yard and into the street. Upon calling the cops and stuff we tell them everything we know, ect... Cops leave and we see a car pull into that house that my quad went to... he gets out of the car and its my cousins boyfriend WHO HAS BEEN TO MY HOUSE, AND RIDDEN MY QUAD IN THE PAST... He tells us- "oh i think i might know where your quad is" and he leaves and comes back saying "nope, couldnt find it", ect... Well my brother in law and me sat in his truck, and just watched the house.. next thing you know, there hooking a trailer up to there SUV.. The noticed we were watching them, so they just started loading random stuff on the trailer, including this tiny cheap car with no plates.. Well they leave the house and we start following them-- guess where they drove right to-- my cousins boyfriends house!!! We pull up right behind them, and they guy that owns the house down the street, and my cousins boyfriend were all "why the w00ter are you following us" ? We said you know exactly why we are-- and my cousins boyfriend was like "dude ive been looking for your quad all day, ive looked everywhere and called everyone" Owner of the house near me says "JUST CUZ THE QUAD WAS STARTED IN MY YARD, DOESNT MEAN I TOOK IT". So obviously he knew the whole time.... Yet when questioned that morning he says he didnt hear ANYTHING.. We tell them that were not leaving til we know where the quad is-- Then another guy comes out and is like "I found your quad, do you wanna know where or not??" So he shows us this dirt road, then a trail at the end- (Maybe 10 houses away from my cousins boyfriends house!! ) walk in about 300 feet, and my quad is just chilling there in the woods... The only person who lives on the dirtroad says " I saw bobby ( cousins bf) riding my quad about an hour ago into the woods) (yet they say they just found it) Walk over to it and connect the wires and start it up. It was on reserve and on the 2nd choke. I drove it home and the cops came over and stuff. Still looking for the dirtbike, but in less than 24hrs we have over 5 names, addresses, phone numbers of all people who are known for stealing stuff, and were at that party that night.. Thank you myspace, and ex girlfriends who hate there ex bf's. I need a new starter/key assembly, tie rods, a-arms (one side is pushed in farther than the other), handle bars, steering stem, 1 front rim is warped bad, 1 back rim is dented and scraped real bad, my back fenders have a crack where the mount for the grab bar holds the fenders, my grab bar is gashed on the right side, front fenders are gouged on the sides and the nose, clutch cable is snapped, the thing that holds the brake fluid on the bars and bend up but not leaking. We gave the cops every singe piece of info we have, but they still claim they cant do anything pretty much..."

RE: New parts in!

i haven't programmed mine, i run curve 2, but there's a guy on raptorforum that programs curves in them relatively cheap, i'm going to have him program a couple in mine later this month.

I got a new quad..

and it's not the ktm. long story short, for some reason KTM couldn't finance me for the 450sx soo... i stuck with what i know best and purchased the yfz450r a few days ago. i took it out to break it in a bit today. i initially had to set all the shocks full soft on compression. i haven't stiffened up the fronts yet, but i stiffened the rear about 3 clicks so far. when the springs break in i'm sure i can find good adjustabilty in them. i feel a bit cramped on it. the pegs need to be lowered to suit me better. it dies really easy when cornering. it could really use a stabilizer, alot of bump-steer. the air filter design screams to be replaced with an aftermarket clamp-on style kit. as of right now, my ltr450 feels like it has better acceleration and throttle response but that may even a bit after break-in. okay all that negative stuff aside.. this quad feels light in the air, very controllable. shifts are nice. the swingarm and rear linkage construction look stout. most everything is easy to access and in a nice spot. there's many good ways to drop weight in this machine, alot of brackets you can do without. i'm gonna need some time with it to hopefully be happy with the purchase. as for now my ltr450 owns this one, but i got alot of money in suspension and handling on the ltr. i've been thinking that i want to make the yfzr my new desert bike, and turn the raptor into a hardcore duner.. but the yfzr is so agile in the air, i might try out mx like i intended to do with the 450sx.

RE: Tell us about your favorite trail ride.

my favorite trail system is near duck creek, utah. many miles of mountain trails on marked routes with elevations from 6,000 feet to above 10,000 feet. there are some technical trails with boulder climbs, and there are wide open trails that are a blast. the scenery is spectacular as you'd expect. you ride along creeks and canyons that overlook southern utah's valleys and national parks. there's a couple lakes in the area as well. the trails are a bit dusty but there's usually plenty of camping area. it's a great summer get-away from the vegas 115+ degree heat, the temperature up there is a more bearable 80 degrees daytime in july and august, but dips down to a chilly 50 degree evening. too bad i can't get up there every weekend. joseph.

RE: Okay...hats off.............but...........

I just hope the execs don't get the bright idea of making sense of it the wrong way. I can see it now.....$!7,000+ for a ute.....lol. i got a good question for ya brother.. i like utes in general, but i have no use for one and it's not really my thing but, what could you possibly need a 951cc ute for?!?!?!?!? heh. do you think the manufacturers are going too far now?

RE: Okay...hats off.............but...........

.... it's a statement that alot of people have been waiting a long time for.. "ATV MX is a sport, and we're taking it seriously." it won't be long until ATV MXers are a common household name like dirtbike MXers and FMXers are. everyone is somewhat familiar with the likes of Carmichael, Bubba, Twitch, McGrath etc.. soon enough the ATV MX, CC, and desert guys will be as known as well. hit the nail on the head! I guess this was my original point, you just expressed it much better than I did. i noticed that you did state it in your original post, and the above paragraph was intended to be a continuation of the paragraph previous to it where i started off "the big prince is right.." i wanted to acknowledge your statement and add my own spin-off to it. it was you that hit the nail on the head! here it is for those who may have missed it: I have to agree with HOJ on this one, and I think it comes down to the fact that the sport/race atv market is still at the toddler stage compared to other forms of offroad mentality (but its picking up momentum). HOJ, I am sure you didn't see it, but I started a thread a few weeks back stating my dismay at how much sport/race quads cost in comparison with the much more intricate and complex big bore utility quads. I think you sport riders get the big ole shaft. IMHO, using the utes as pricing benchmarks, the 450cc quads should be no more than $5,000.00 on the MSRP (YFZ, 450R, KFX, LT-R), and a ride like the KTM in the $8,500-$9,500 range. i went ahead and read the thread, and i do agree. i mean, they manufacture and sell some brand new automobiles for less than atv's! how's that possible? i think of it as a starbucks coffee.. is $5.00 too much for a coffee? ofcourse but geez louise i can't imagine not having one!

RE: Okay...hats off.............but...........

at least keep it under 10 grand. $11,398.00 WTF? No quad is worth that IMHO. i keep posting these long posts and i keep forgetting the important main point.. what i'm trying to say is, in my opinion, the $11,400 price tag is justified. i know a few ATV hillshooters, one of the FSA main competitors is my best friend, and he spends an EXTREME amount of money in concentration to shaving weight. he also spends alot of money replacing parts, because you're sacrificing durability for less weight sometimes. i'm still waiting to see how well the KTM holds up.

RE: Okay...hats off.............but...........

i'm liking this discussion, everyone here has valid points and it seems like the atv news forum of old, where we can debate on a particular subject and keep it respectful. cchagros you're right about something in particular.. there's no way i'd leave that quad stock. i'm not too happy about how much travel the front suspension has. i'd eventually change the arms and shocks. if i were gonna race it in WORCS, i'd change the bars to flexx, but for mx i'd probably leave the stock magura bars on. i'd also get into the motor ofcourse, but it would be minimal.. p&p, cam, maybe valve and a slightly higher compression piston. but all this aside, i'm still going to have the lightest mx quad on the market, for just about the same price! i'm not close to being done with my WORCS LTR450, and with purchase price and modifications to date, i'm into it $15,000 and i haven't gotten into anything motor yet, not even exhaust (i can guarantee atleast another $6,000) and after all that i'll have a 50 lb. disadvantage. one thing i can say about the ktm quad that i absolutely cannot say about any other quad.. i can literally take it from the showroom floor straight to the track and if i'm familiar with the track, i can be competitive! the big prince is right, and kudos to ktm for making for making a purpose specific quad. the other manufacturers are trying to cater to everyone a little bit too much, and usually cater to nobody perfectly. this quad definitely isn't for everyone, very few people considering the industry as a whole. my local ktm dealership isn't even going to have one on the showroom floor at all.. they have one 505sx, and that's a demo. i'm not trying to push my opinions on you at all, and if i were in your position being that this quad was definitely not built for you than i'd see things the same way that you do. the ktm 450sx is more than just an expensive race-ready quad, it's a statement that alot of people have been waiting a long time for..

RE: Okay...hats off.............but...........

cchagros, my brother, i highly disagree. this is my perspective, and why i'm purchasing a ktm 450sx.. how much is 40lbs. worth in a race quad? worth alot to me. the new yfz450r is impressive, but it's not race ready. 405 lbs. wet, no nerf bars, no tether. you can remove the parking brake and the headlights to shave a little weight, but you'll add that back on with the nerf bars etc. the ktm is 363 lbs. wet, with nerf bars and tether. truly race ready. the ktm isn't corked up like the other manufacturers bikes are. you can take this bike to the track is pure straight from the showroom floor, be able to make the necessary adjustments for the particular track conditions (shock compression, rebound, ride height, camber, castor) and be competitive. the ktm 450sx motor STOCK outperforms any ltr450 3 mod (full aftermarket exhaust, fuel controller, filter) motor on the dyno and more importantly on the track. lets say me or you has the money to make a new yfz450r or ltr450 a true track competitor parallel or beyond the ktm. to parallel it, we'd have to purchase: hydraulic clutch, nerf bars, tether, full exhaust, fuel controller, rear beadlocks, (20" front tires, 18" rear tires for the yamaha), and caster adjustable upper a-arms. if you want to easily adjust the ride height on the front arms, you'd need to purchase new ones or purchase a special tool. however there's one thing that you'll never be able to equal the ktm.. the 40-50 lb. diet is has on these two quads. i use ltr450 and the yfz450r as an example because they're the only two i'm familiar with. from what i understand the can-am ds450mx version has nerf bars and caster adjustable arms, but also has about 25-30 pounds on the ktm with all fluids, and it's choked up like the rest of the other 450's. i just dislike the look of it altogether. i don't disagree that with the savings of the other 450's you can utilize that money and make a more powerful or better handling quad than the ktm, but not both without exceeding the savings. my ltr450 handles better than the ktm, but i also have $4,000 into suspension. my motor isn't faster, i'll need to spend a couple thousand to achieve that, and the ltr450 is heavier by far. it doesn't matter how much i spend i'll never be able to put my ltr450 on a 50 lb. diet to compete with the ktm!
