RE: Does 2 Riders on a 1 Rider ATV = Illegal?

I have some friends that own a small cattle ranch,in lower "Bama. The wife took the grandson(who was three at the time) on a Yamaha Grizz, for a ride around the ranch. Cattle farms usually have barb wire fences. The child was up front holding on to the handle bars, when they stopped to talk to my long time friend. With out any warning, the child yelled "Lets go"! and pushed the throttle wide open, running the machine into the barbed fence,.The child went inder the strand which caught his grand mother in the throat, ripping into an artery. It nearly severed her jugular, life flite saved her life. Accidents happen,be prepared.
Willie that's awful, no one ever thinks of things like that happening.

RE: Does 2 Riders on a 1 Rider ATV = Illegal?

My dad did the same thing with me cept then it was 3-wheelers. I remember him trying to climb my uncles front yard with me one the back. We rolled over backwards, dad and the 3-wheeler crushed me. I cried a little and got over it like most kids do.
That was then, the world is different now, if the same thing happened today, say I got hurt and had to go to the emergencey room. The moment they find out what happened Child Protection is gonna have some questions for my dad.
At 34 Ive grown up a little, I dont have any kids yet so this is a non issue for me at this point.
Today in our local paper click
Man was doubling 2-kids last weekend, crashed, 11 year old boy was killed. It dosent say if they were wearing helmets but it does say they dont expect to file any charges at this time. Yea right, charges would be the last thing on my mind if I had just killed a child. Could you amagine having to live with that, jail or otherwise.

RE: Does 2 Riders on a 1 Rider ATV = Illegal?

First off, Welcome to the forums srk27. Secondly don't you think you are being alittle harsh sirlance? You pretty much called him a irresponsible parent when you don't know him and haven't seen the terrain he was wanting to bring HIS kid on.Lastly, is there anyway to contact somebody that runs the place you are wanting to go? Or anybody that has been there before? And if you do get the ok, Then it is up you to be the judge of what is safe for YOUR child and what isn't. Your the only one that can say what is best for your child, not some stranger on a forum.
Your right, maybe that did seem harsh but when someone says they plan to double their kid on mountain trails what picture does that paint for you? Chances are, it would be slow & safe type of trail riding and if thats the case then Im sorry if I sounded pricky. Dont know how old this dudes kid is but the best possible way to introduce a child to Quads is to buy him a mini and teach him. Im sorta going through that right now.
Weekend before last I past a dude that was doubling his kid on a YZ-250 dirtbike, kid couldnt have been out of diapers wasent much over a toddler and was sitting on the gas tank in front of dad. Neither the kid or the dad had a helmet on and was makin pretty good speed considering the situation and was headed toward pavement. THAT WENT right through me, knowing if that dude crashes and that kid gets hurt or killed my riding area is going to get shut down. I guess thats a selfish way to look at it but its a reality if that happens.

RE: Marijauna Legal?

In my younger years, yes but like most people I grew out of that phase.
And these days its just not worth the risk of getting in trouble.
And the best bud on earth comes from British Columbia, Canada where its more or less legal.

RE: Does 2 Riders on a 1 Rider ATV = Illegal?

Think of it this way, weather its illegal or not if you have an accident and your kid gets hurt or killed you will spend the rest of your life in jail for child endangerment. The stickers on the fenders clearly state not to double and if its an organized system you are planning on riding I guarantee they wont allow it.
With that said, I double my woman pretty often. Shes an adult and knows the danger associated with riding, a kid dosent understand that they can get hurt, thats your job to protect against. Doubling a kid for anything other than a slow trip around the yard is irresponsible in my opinion.

RE: Marijauna Legal?

I think they should limit it to 20 mature plant, meaning in the bud cycle at any given time and allow you to have as many small plants as you want. You have a 50% mortality rate as soon as you start and then 50% of the remainder will turn male which are useless. So if you start with 100 plant's by the time they mature you will end up with 25 or less.
Its not as easy as people that dont know think it is. Thats why Mexico has field after field of it, trying to meet the demand. Those dollars should be kept in America and our Government knows it. I think they have some sort of backdoor deal with Mexico to keep it illegal. Wouldnt surprise me a bit if someone in our Gov didnt broker it and control deliveries & shipping, the whole 9-yards. If our Gov really wanted to stop it they would, they have other drugs in the past and pot is no different.

RE: Marijauna Legal?

Of course it would be more expensive but at least you would know it hadent been tampered with, meaning no one sprinkled Crank or anything else in it. And it would take the money away from drug dealer's.
If it were ever legalized the price would hit rock bottom, a lot of the problem's we have & money we spend trying to fight it from coming into this country would stop. Im guessing at least 1/2 of Mexico's economy is based off of that drug.
Our government already knows the science behind it and the effects it has, they have studied it for years. Their only argument is its a segway drug to harder drugs. Thats like saying if you drink a beer then you will start drinking liquar. Things like that caint be controlled by governing or laws, it all comes down to the individual.

RE: Marijauna Legal?

Agreed, its no more harmful than alcohol in most cases less harmful.
Empty the jails
tax it the same as alcohol
driving under the influence would be the same as alcohol
put our farmers back in business and stop all the crop subsidies
have to be of age 21 to consume
Prohabition has never worked and never will. People are gonna consume it reguardless of what our goofy government says. Something like 80% of drug offenders in jail are because of Weed and its less harmful than all the other drug's combined including alcohol.
They need to legalize it and use the money / resources to fight the hard drugs.

RE: Greatest ATV Hunting/Fishing Trip

Woods
Do you know anyone in the AEP system? They are my biggest customer and Ive heard if you know the right people legal passes can be purchased for hunting & fishing, dont know about quads. The liability aspect might prohibit such but I dont know. I do know they offer it to some of their higher end employee's. Theres an area somewhere near Muskingum River plant that I know sells limited passes, could it be the same place you are talking about?

RE: Greatest ATV Hunting/Fishing Trip

I know nothing about Fishing, only thing I ever caught when I tried to fish was a buzz.
As for Hunting, most people I know White tail Deer & Turkey hunt and occasionally Bear hunt. Most serious Deer hunters, when asked where they would like to hunt, most will say one of (3) places. Texas, Iowa or one of the Canadian places like Saskatchewan or Alberta. Most trophy Deer hunters want to go one of those places but caint afford it, myself included.
Other than that, Kodiak Island in Alaska would be my dream hunt for Brown Bears.
I use my quad every single day during hunting season, usually to get to & from my stand, game retrieval which includes using my winch to fetch a Deer that I couldnt drag up a hill by myself, food plot prep, tree stand & equipment hauler. Quads are invaluable in a hunting situation but can be the most annoying thing in the world when your neighbors feel like trespassing.

RE: 2 wheels vs 4 wheels and Where to ride the dang thing

Since ya mentioned H & M and Pinnacle Creek I have to ask where you are from? I ride both of those places especially Pinnacle.
As for your post, only thing I know about brand is that Can-Am is the BEST and Honda SUCKS but is still better than Polaris, lol.

RE: RIP MJ

The dude was a fukcing legend
That was before he turned white and started ballin little boys.
Just proves you can do a whole lifetime of good but will be remembered for the bad things. Thriller was great for the time & Billy Jean was huge, the moment he fondled those kids he might as well have wiped his ass with all that.

That child molesting...colar changing b@sturd. Why anyone cares if he took his last breath is beyond me. He bought his way out of jail not once but twice. I hope those kids parents are proud of themselves.

RE: Most/Least Durable ATV Brands

I didnt have any luck out of Yamaha, had a 03 grizzly & 01 Raptor at the same time. The Grizzly had 3,200 miles on it when I traded it for a Suzuki King Quad. I broke both rear axles a month apart, numerous bearings, bushings, front drive shaft CV joint wore out & was using oil when I traded it off. I dont even wanna go into all the problems I had out of that Raptor. I truly loved that quad, spent all weak wrenchin on it to ride it one day on the weekend and by the time I sold it, it was using oil. Something about that 660 motor, once they get a few miles on them they start to eat itself. The Parts Yamaha uses are cheap like bearings & seals and their engineering isnt very good.
Honda
I had a 400 EX and loved it but was too small for me. What little bit I did have to work on that bike it was easy to tell that Honda engineering is top notch. Their Utes are lacking in performance & features, even the Rincon feels small to me and I caint stand the bend their bars have. Its easy to tell the Jap's are smaller people, I bet those bars fit them really well.
Suzuki
I owned a 06 King Quad and loved that little quad, it was underpowered but handled & rode nice and never gave me any problems in 2,800 miles of riding. That King quad rates as one of the best Ive ever owned, traded it for a 07 Can-Am 800 (single-up)
Kawie
My best friend had a Prairie and now a Brute force so Ive spent a lot of time helping him wrench those Kawies over the years. They seem to have a lot of front end problems. On the Prairie since it had struts up front and kept wearing out a balljoint type thing at the top of the strut. and kept getting water in the rear end which turned out the drive shaft boot had a small hole int he bottom where we couldnt see it against the motor. The Brute, has no greases fitting in the front and eats itself if ya get it in very much mud & water. We eventually drilled & taped & installed Zerk fitting in his A-arms anf that seems to have helped.
Can-Am
I have a Outlander 800 (single-up) and truly love that quad, it has close to 4,000 miles on it and its an 2007. I havent had frame problems but I installed skid before I ever rode it. Had problems out of those rear arms, the nut that holds them together wasent lock-tited fromt factory and they get loose every so often. The motor started using oil at around 1,800 miles, warranty fixed it. They said it looked like a 650 ring on a 800 piston and that it must have been a factory defect. Those Rotax motors arent known for failure so Im gonna assume it was a defect. Over 2,000 miles since the rebuild and its not using oil as of yesterday. My warranty is good until June 2010 so I plan to get a 2010 (camo) Outlander in June of next year. The moment that warranty goes out Im trading it in.
Ok so theres my quad experience, as to what brand is the best or worse I dont know but Ive been looking at Kymco lately.

I have to say your Rhino is one of the nicer ones Ive seen. The cage design is awesome and the carbon fiber plastic looks great.
Did you fab the cage yourself?

In the desert, do ya get to hold the throttle wide open for long periods of time, long straight's & the like? Being from the mountains we very seldom get to really open them up.

RE: Rattlesnake

I dont know what type of Rattlesnake it was, assume Eastern considering it was WV. Im not sure but I believe it was a female.
I had been wanting a Rattlesnake video for a while, ran into a huge male last summer and didnt have my camera. That snake was aggressive from the moment we rode up on it.
Couple hours after we ran into the snake I saw pretty big Bear.
It was a hellova day.
