RE: New family member, but an old friend

I didn't want the red when I got my Rincon, but I have seen where a guy heat gun removed all of the stickers from his red Rincon and bought those racing graphics and applied them in a way that looked really cool. I've tried other tires on my Rincon, but have kept the stockers (some recently replaced from buying the take offs from the Honda shop) and always seem to put them back on to juice up the ride. The wheel and rim combo are the lightest I have ever seen, and give the Rincon its best performance.

another thing that would drive the choice of the Polaris 850xp is it
having the power to pull an ATV trailer on campouts.

Current administration money policy.

I think the most detrimental policy of this current president is his money policy. Redefining deficit spending is only a small part of how dangerous this administration's money policy is to our solvency. Printing money to buy up the debt is ludicrous, and is setting the stage for Carter style inflation. Gold over $1000 an ounce tells us that the inflative pressures have begun, and the long held TARP money release is scheduled to peak in 2010, putting gasoline on the fire. China is strongly cautioning the US Treasury to stop the printing to prevent the dollar from losing too much value. A couple of highly respected economist have reported that the Obama policy is making the same mistakes that contributed to the severity and duration of the Great depression. We are dead on the same track followed by FDR, and how can we expect the economy today to react differently? This is proving that Kensyan economics is a twice failed policy. Let us hope and pray that we shift current policy toward a safer direction.

RE: Adding to my ATV collection.

I would not really go for the Thundercat due to handling concerns. But I am favorable to the Prowler with the 950cc motor. I do like what I am hearing on the 850XP's ride and handling. The concern I have is the overall weight, but am impressed with the robustness of the frame.

It is hard to imagine no suspension on the quads of today, but those sure were bouncy tires, and were max on the floatation.

RE: Met a guy from Ontario today.

As an avowed trail rider, I can't see investing soo much money in making a quad more race ready. Somewhere on that line you pass the point of investment=return. I want to upgrade my 400ex, but only on the things that make it more enjoyable for me to ride, like tires/wheels/suspension and maybe exhaust. If I want to sell later to buy up, the items I've upgraded may be a selling point, and hopefully not a money pit. One can never recoup what is invested in upgrades for making the machine a hyper racer, or the fastest on the block. So why do it?

Adding to my ATV collection.

Even though I have 3 quad already, 2 Utilities and a sport, I have been giving thought to adding two more. You know, with family, friends, and other guest wanting to ride when on outings, three is not enough. I want to add one more Utility and another Sport quad. Since my two other brothers and I takes trips around the country, I am wanting a trail quad. Since I live in a mud capital location in Ga. I also want a designated type mud quad. Here are the two that capture my fancy:
1. The Honda 700XX seems to be a good concept trail quad because of IRS and the other benefits of a sport quad (eg. chain drive). Sport quads always have that spot on steering and handling that would do well on fast trails. Since I've ridden the H/M trails several times on Utility and Sport, the sport was the most fun. H/M is the trail standard I use to determine trail applications. How would you rate the 700XX for trails?
2. The Polaris 850XP seems to be a great choise for larger tires and with the mudding ability necessary for some of the mud pits around my neck of the woods. Louisiana is also mud heaven where my bros live. It apparently has the power needed, and was designed more robust for the big tire issue. How would you rate the 850XP for mudding?
These are my eventual goals for 2010 if the economy ever come around.

How about the new Arctic Cat 366, it should be around $5K. It has good credentials for a hunting machine.

RE: Another Pain in the Azz Repair for the Grizzly.

My brother has had the older Grizzly 660, and now the 700 griz and just bought the 550 griz, and I have to say the Rincon in normal 4 wheel drive is much easier to ride than either of his three grizzlys. He has said himself that he does not like riding his 700 in 4x4 mode. On the Rincon, you can hardly tell the difference between in and out of 4 wheel drive. I have never ridden a Brute Force 750, but I like the concept of its locker. That would be the locker setup I would like to see on the Rincon. My recent trip to Chadwich OHV in Missouri was a testament to the climbing ability of the Rincon. Most all the trails were rated hard to real hard, and took alot of skill to navigate. Rode all of them in 4x4 mode, and can truthfully say that the Rincon was easy to handle throughout that ride. Not to say that after four days of trail riding on that trip our arms were not sore. The Rincon has a one inch lower clearance than the Grizzly at 10", but that one inch makes a huge difference in handling between the two. There is no power steering or locker on the Rincon, but it definitely has a more fun factor than the griz.RN, I think you're suffering Honda dementia again. I'll never argue the Rincon's trail handling excellence with you. But if you really had trouble riding a Grizz 660 in 4x4, you must have string beans for arms, or I suspect you tried it with diff lock engaged, which does make steering noticeably harder. I started this thread because I'm sick of the troublesome, picayune, problems with my Grizz. But all in all, it has been a good machine. It's never left me stranded on the trail; just in my driveway, when I needed to plow snow. No contesting the Honda's are probably the most reliable machines, and that's what I'm looking for at this time. If I buy a Rincon, the first mod would defiantly be the front locker kit. I've maintained my Grizz obsessively, I should not have had these problems. Time to move on.
This is funny greygriz, but come to think of it , I am getting along in age and the dimentia charge might have some merit to it. But no, I do know the difference of riding a Grizzly in regular 4x4 mode and in the "Locked" mode. I found the 660 and 700 shared the same charactoristic when riding in the 4x4 mode. My brother did not purchase the 700 Grizzly with PS because of the $900 extra charge. There is more feedback resistance from the grizzly when in normal 4x4 mode, and when locked, it is best advised to be going straight-line. I don't need to tell you that though. I haven't ridden his new 550 Griz, but am looking forward to it next time I am in Louisiana and go riding with him. On our last trail trip, I did go up against him on his 700 Griz and had no problem keeping up with him on the trails when he was the rabbit. It was not easy, but I did open up on him when he was giving chase while I was the rabbit. But who are we but a couple of older guys.

RE: Another Pain in the Azz Repair for the Grizzly.

I think its all personal preference, there are no "bad" atvs now days. Just some with more or better features, but people like rincon-newby are hardcore brand loyalist and can't admitt that their favorite brand is not the "best" ever made. So they turn it into mine is better than yours kinda thing and so I give a hard time. This is turining into a yamaha vs honda thing, and I don't think either brand's atvs are all better than the other brands. And CC,you were into suck??lol
I am not familiar enough with you BlueRapted to know how serious a player you are, but, you are totally wrong about me being a "hardcore brand loyalist". It is just that I love to refute a poster's negative rant on Hondas, and Rincons in particular, just because their claim is not the whole picture, or they just do not have the justified perspective to make the negative claim, eg. haven't ridden one in their life. Features do not give a picture of quality of a particular brand of atv, or a lack of one does not either. The add on of power steering to a quad to improve its steering short falls, does not mean that another brand that hasn't added one to their quad suffers from not having PS. As well, the adding of powerful a engine such as in case of the Thundercat, does not make an overall better handling trail package machine. We become too myoptic on the issues of features per se, and think that adding a feature improves the overall machine above its quality threshhold. If you read Greygrizz's comments from the start of this tread, you will see he showed some dissatisfaction with his machine's reliability, and was thinking of changing to something comparable mentioning the Rincon. It was than that the negative bantering began. Just in the area of design, there is a difference in the Grizzly and Rincon. The Grizzly is somewhere between being a mud machine and a trail machine. The Rincon is a sport oriented trail machine. The Grizzly GC is higher than the Rincon's giving it better mudding ability, but conversely, the Rincon's lower GC gives it better handling on the trails. Is the Grizzly better because of the added GC? If so than the Arctic Cat is even better than the Grizzly because of an even higher GC. It is than all due to a design charactoristic. The Arctic Cat is better in the mud but not as good on the trails. The Grizzly tries to cover both and does good on both. The Rincon is OK in the mud but does exception on trail riding. So, this all comes down to the definition of "best". BUT, this still does not cover the issue of quality between the brands.

Whats the reaction in the state of Mass over the Barney Frank town hall video? That guy gives me the willies (pun intended), and seems arrogant to his own constituents.

Hey ksim I noticed you didn't go for the rzr type side by side. I have alot of regard for the Rhino and think it is at that sweet spot between work machine and all out sport oriented side by side. Good choice.

RE: Whats the fastest utility

Is it more power than speed that is desired on a utility quad? Speed is dependent on many variables that can be changed by modifications. I can make my quad have a higher top end by changing the geering or size of the tires. Or by piping with an exhaust that juices the upper RPM range. Or I can be more oriented toward my quad being quick by piping to the mid and lower RPM range, and using smaller wheels and tires or easier gearing. Power has its allure, but how much is necessary? Brpbear says that you can't ride in the higher elevations without have an 800 outlander or equivelant. He says the lowly 500cc sized machines do not have the power, or the 650/680/700 single cylinder machines. What was used before the advent of 700cc and greater big bores? The faster or more powerful quads are going to cost you if you can afford it, but the mid sizes can also do you well. That's all that I am saying. This is all of that counselling our fathers used to give us on determining what we need against what we want, and against what we can afford. If I have the money, I will go large, but within reason to the return gotten.

RE: What new feature would you like to see developed on Utes?

I am especially an advocate of an easy thumb throttle because of multiday ride experiences. The digital throttle would actually be lighter than the cabled throttle, and works well with the FI system. Plus it could make the FI system more programable.
